By analytics, one can get, deep insight of the website, which can help the user in various ways to keep its website up to the mark. Google analytics is common of all, and is being used very vastly. It is a reliable and feature full software. Let’s discuss how to set up it, in three simple setups.
Setup 1: Sign Up
Once, you reached the Google analytics homepage (:), there is an option to Sign up. If you already have a Google account, which, most of us do, and then you can sign up as an existing account, you don’t have to create a new account.
Well, most of us, have used Google, in one way or other, so, I am pretty sure you have an existing account. If not, you can easily sign up by making new account, it is simple and fast. After signing in by your existing account, or by creating new one, you will get a screen, on the top right corner, there would be click button, naming “access Google analytics”. If you’re not automatically redirected to this screen, you can again click on the link and the screen will appear. Now click on the button and a screen, requiring additional information will load.
Now you can track website as well as an app. But this tutorial is about website, so I will be telling to about that only. Fields are to be filled as:
Enter website name, use your URL, or any name
Enter website URL, simple, without http://, for eg: www.abcd.com
Mention the type of industry; it is basically the website niche.
Enter time zone of your location.
Enter account name, I would prefer your company name.
Data sharing settings, tick and untick as per your requirements.
Setup 2: Tracking Code
There is a unique ID to every analytics account. If you’re using WordPress, as an editor to your website, then simple, copy your tracking ID and paste exactly in the Google analytics (you have to install it first) plugin in your WordPress.
If you’re using other, do it manually as mentioned below.
Copy the unique ID
Paste EXACTLY THAT before the ending head tag in your HTML code.(for finding In the Find box, type )
Save and Done. It can take one hour to one day to work. On completion “Status: Receiving Data” will appear next to “Tracking ID.”
Setup 3: Second Admin
This is a backup plan if anything happens, you could sign in from different admin.
When signed into Google Analytics, click Admin at the top of your screen.
Select User Management in Account menu.
In the “Add permission for:” field, fill out the email address (unrelated Gmail address works)
Tick all boxes under the drop-down menu to the right. This essentially makes him the admin.
Tick ‘notify this user by email’
Click the Add button and you’re done.
